Arthur’s agent speaks out
Arthur Melo’s agent has given Arsenal an obvious boost in preparing their transfer plans, hinting that the Juventus ace will be on the move this summer.
The 25-year-old was set to join the Gunners in the January transfer window but Arthur ultimately stayed in Turin after the Bianconeri were unable to find a suitable replacement before the deadline. leaving Mikel Arteta light in midfield.
Now, however, agent Federico Pastorello has hinted his client is set to leave the Allianz Stadium within the next few months, admitting the playmaker’s profile doesn’t suit Massimiliano Allegri’s style of play. “In January he was about to leave and join Arsenal,” Pastorello told La Repubblica, via Metro.
“He is too important a player to be marginalized, he also has to think about his situation with the national team. He was signed to play a different style of football, with Maurizio Sarri he would have played [ Chelsea star] Jorginho, Allegri likes him but instead he wants to play with two other physical midfielders.
“It’s a tactical question, and I don’t make the technical choices. But it’s not in anyone’s interest to continue in this situation.”
Arsenal technical director Edu recently explained why the Gunners decided against pursuing any other goals in January, telling ESPN Brazil ahead of last month’s 3-1 win over Manchester United: “The budget we we used last summer, we prefer to use it To rebalance the group, there was no point in hiring one or two players, the group was not ready to absorb two players, the group had to be rebalanced.
“Maybe next season we can switch to one or two players. Today we find a much more balanced team. Our planning has already been done, it has already reached the owners. It’s a question of ‘step by step how we’re going to finish the season and put in place the schedule that I’m passionate about.”
